Officer of the month for February 2012

Security Officer Robert Schab has been selected as Officer of the Month for February 2012. Officer Schab has been employed with Yale Enforcement Services, Inc. since November 2011 and his permanent duty station is at one of our large manufacturing facilities. In a relatively short period of time, Bob mastered the intricacies of the responsibilities at the manufacturer’s distribution center, which is no easy task. Supervisors have reported that Officer Schab is the “best officer” we have ever had at this location. Bob has not missed a day’s work and is always punctual and ready for duty and his paperwork and attention to detail is exemplary. Congratulations to Officer Robert Schab for being awarded officer of the month!

Training Academy Grand Opening

Region 5 is proud to announce the opening of our new Training Academy in our Tampa Office. With this 2000 square foot expansion and our existing training school certification, Yale will now be offering the training courses to obtain certifications for the Florida Unarmed Security License, CPR/First Aid/AED and CPI/De-escalation. This expansion will hopefully not only be a good growth opportunity for Yale, but also an excellent recruiting source providing us a continuous pipeline of new candidates. As well, this is a convenient resource for our existing officers to complete their CPR/First Aid/AED certification, which is a requirement if assigned to one of our many hospital facilities, or to achieve certain levels of rank advancement. As a further convenience for our existing officers, tuition is payroll deducted so they don’t have to worry about covering the cost of the class up front.

Tuition rates are:

Florida Class D Unarmed Security License (40 hours) - $85.00

D Application Processing Service (Includes Notary, Fingerprinting and Passport Photo) - $15.00

CPR / First Aid / AED (8 hours) - $45.00

Patient Rights vs. Security

When it comes to the rights of a patient, it sometimes conflicts with our security operations, especially when it comes to the history of violent or abusive patients and “No Trespassing” orders.

According to Federal Law, NO patient is to be refused medical care in an emergency, or when there is a life threatening condition. Sometimes, our security mindset overtakes us, and we forget this.

Case in point.

Recently, a hospital in our area received a patient via ambulance. The patient that was coming in on ambulance was one that was known to the staff, and one that had been a security problem in the past. Upon seeing the man, a nurse realized that the patient had a NO TRESPASS notice that had been served. The patient was escorted off the property, and sent to another facility. Though security was not involved, the fact that security had indeed filed the NO TRESPASS notice on the man became an issue.

The result: The facility in question is facing a $500,000.00 fine, and two hotel employees are unemployed. And it will not end there. Policies have been rewritten, and training has been done for all staff members. The dust has not settled on the matter, and more changes will be coming.

It is as much a matter of luck as it is good training that we were not involved. Turning away a patient can have devastating effects, both on an institution and individuals. Federal fines are steep, and the additional inspections and scrutiny that follows can lead to more fines and separations. It might be a good idea to review your NO TRESPASS policy with your officers and clients. Good policy, good training and good people are the key, and prevention and review can save all of us money and jobs.

Officer of the Month Foils Theft

Anthony “Tony” Mazzola has been employed with Yale Enforcement Services since November of 2010. Tony and his wife moved to Florida when he retired from the NYPD as a Detective. Tony’s experience came into play recently when, while assigned to a local area hospital, he received a call from the hospital switchboard of a person acting in a suspicious manner on the grounds. Tony observed the person and questioned him as to why he was loading materials into his vehicle. When this person gave vague and evasive answers, Tony called for another Yale Enforcement Services Officer to assist him. While the other Officer spoke with the person, Tony turned off the person’s vehicle so that he could not leave quickly. Upon determining that this person had no legal authority to remove any material from the site, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office was contacted. Tony continued to speak with the person until the arrival of Deputies at which time the suspect was placed under arrest by the Sheriffs Deputies. For his quick response, handling of the situation and prevention of any loss to our client, Tony has been named the Region 5 Officer of the Month.

Yale Officer Injured in Accident

Sergeant Michael Bishop sustained minor injuries in a two car collision in Omaha this morning. While traveling between patrol stops, a gray SUV ran a red light. The Yale Enforcement Services car then struck the SUV. The impact of the collision deployed both air bags in the patrol car and the car was totaled. Bishop was taken to the hospital by ambulance suffering a shoulder injury. The driver of the SUV was ticketed for failing to yield and driving on a suspended license.

I hope all of our patrol drivers can use this accident as a reminder to always look both ways and don't trust a green light! Thankfully Sgt. Bishop was not seriously hurt.

Officer Bonnie Gayton 1935-2012

It is with great sadness that we report, Region 3 has lost one of its most treasured officers. Officer Bonnie Gayton passed away Sunday, February 5^th 2012, due to complications from an illness she was suffering from. Her son called to notify us and said that Bonnie loved working for Yale Enforcement Services and really enjoyed her job. Before she became ill, Bonnie was one of those officers that never turned down a shift, always had a smile on her face and always had something nice to say. She was a favorite of the office staff and clients and will be deeply missed. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Gayton family at this time. We are truly fortunate to have had Bonnie in our lives!

Region 5 Welcomes New Operations Manager

Region 5 would like to welcome our new Tampa Operations Manager, Steve Yodice. Steve comes to us with a tremendous background and is retired law enforcement with over 22 years on the force. During that time, he received fourteen department commendations, two of which are for distinguished valor. He also has several years of contract security management and hospital security experience. Aside from what he brings to the table with his experience, Steve is a great guy that gets along well with the team.

On a personal note, Steve has been married to his wife Caroline for 12 years. He has two daughters, age 36 and 31, a step-son who is 19 and 3 beautiful grandchildren who are 13, 4 and 4 months old. Steve is a self proclaimed workaholic and enjoys staying busy.

I look forward to the level of expertise that Steve brings to Yale and think he will have a positive effect on our operations. Please extend a warm welcome to Steve whenever you get the opportunity to talk to him. Steve, we are glad you are here!

Matt has been employed with Yale Enforcement Services, Inc. since August 2011 and has been assigned to one of our challenging armed accounts. He has always shown excellent judgment while executing his duties in the face of a sometimes hostile environment. He has also shown that he can work with a wide variety of individuals and do so in a calm manner and always sorts to the right decision safely and professionally. Innovation-Security Outside the Box

Capt. Ken Lemley, site supervisor for one of our gated communities, saw a need and adapted. After the recent passing of an elderly resident who lived alone, Ken saw that there needed to be a better way to communicate with the residents. He developed the “Wellness Check Program.” With the assistance of the client, our older and single residents can sign up for the Wellness Check Program. Once on the list, the resident will call in each morning to check in, just letting someone know that they are ok and well. If a resident does not call in, security will telephone the resident to insure they are ok, and if that does not work, an officer will respond to the home to check on the resident.

The client and the residents love the new program. The relationship that this shows between the security operations and the community is the reason that Yale Enforcement Services continues to grow in the region. This is a direct reflection of how Yale Enforcement Services continues to look “outside the box” to better serve our clients.

Unattended Children-A Safety and Security Hazard

Every day children are let unattended in or around vehicles, a danger most people greatly underestimate. Many states do not have laws that define a specific age when a child may be left alone at home. However, most do have laws that prohibit leaving a child unattended in a vehicle for any length of time. Security officers often come across children left alone in cars. Recently Officer Frank Salvaggio of Region 3 was involved in such a situation. Officer Salvaggio found an infant and a toddler left alone in a car and contacted 911. This type of situation is taken seriously and 3 police cars arrived. As a result both parents were ticketed by the police.

If children are left inside cars during hot weather, it can cause heat exhaustion or heat stroke leading to permanent disability or death in a matter of minutes. This is a punishable offense under most state laws. In Texas it is considered a Class C misdemeanor if a person knowingly leaves a child younger than seven in a car and is unattended by anyone 14 years or older. Leaving children unattended in a car is also a form of neglectful supervision in Texas.

Exact charges for the parents that chose to leave their children in the car in this case are not known at this time. Officer Salvaggio’s actions could very well have saved the children’s lives. This was a great job by Officer Salvaggio, who has only been employed by Yale Enforcement Services for little over a month.

Final Food Pantry Donation Made

Each year, Yale Enforcement Services, Inc. donates to local charities. Each Region was given a $200 to donate to a local food pantry. On January 18th, Region 1 made the final donation of $200 worth of non perishable food to the St. Paul Food Pantry in Belleville, Illinois.

Rather than just giving the money to the pantry, Personnel Coordinator Char Knox, (who loves to shop), volunteered to take the money and shop for the pantry. Char purchased and delivered the food to St. Paul’s volunteer Jerry, who received the goods with a great appreciation.

We hope this donation will go a long way to help those less fortunate during the tough winter months. Yale Enforcement Services generosity will hopefully inspire others to help out as well.

Giving Back to our Communities

I am pleased to announce that a gift of $200 worth of food items has been delivered to the Grover Street Food Pantry in Omaha, Nebraska on behalf of Yale Enforcement Services, Inc. The Grover Street Pantry is a mid-town Omaha facility that serves over 7,000 residents in an area where no other food bank is located. Its central location is vital in serving a largely Hispanic and elderly demographic. This relatively small but important resource for area residents who are in need of assistance were very pleased with the Yale donation and stated that it was one of the largest one time donations they had ever received! We in Region 2 are proud to be associated with Yale Enforcement Services, Inc., that has shown a real commitment and generosity in giving back to our communities.

Yale Enforcement Services Donates to the North Texas Food Bank

Region 3 donated $200.00 in food to the North Texas Food Bank(NTFB). Our contribution comes at a time when the number of hungry children, families and seniors in our community continues to rise. Support has never been more critical, and the North Texas Food Bank expressed thanks and appreciation for the donation.

The NTFB sent the following statement, informing Yale of who the donation would help.

You’ve already made a difference in the lives of Angela’s family. She’s a single mother raising three children on her own. She was working two jobs to make ends meet, but the stress of working so many hours and taking care of her kids has taken a toll on her health. She’s now unable to work and her only income is in the form of disability assistance. Angela wouldn’t be able to feed her children if not for the help of friends like you. Thanks to your gifts to the NTFB, she can come to a Food Bank Member Agency for nutritious groceries. She’s so thankful for the food she receives - and for your compassion. “Don’t stop donating!” she says gratefully, “This food has been a help to my family and to others.”

Charleston Avoids Disaster

Friday the 13^th was not all bad luck, but it started out that way. At one of our facilities in Charleston, a suspect threatened to kill an employee, first with a handgun, then with explosives. According to the family, he had both the ability and the equipment to carry through with the threat, and the facility went on lock down.

Within true Yale fashion, the officers stepped up. Within 20 minutes of notification of the threat, Yale officers came in from home, and we aware able to provide 4 additional officers and 2 patrol cars. Within 30 minutes of the call, the facility was locked down and all access was controlled or denied.

Our officers were able to provide a full description of the suspect vehicle, as well as the plate number, and the suspect was arrested after a car crash without further incident.

Thank you to all the Yale Enforcement Services staff for your professional service and dedication. Lt. Tereasa Price, Site Supervisor and Incident Commander Officer William White, Corporals Gary Higdon and Charles Pitcher and Capt. James Williams, who all responded on their off duty time to insure the safety and service to our client and their staff.

Houston Food Bank Receives Donation

Recently, the Region 4 office was authorized by corporate headquarters to donate $200 worth of groceries to a local charity. Region 4 chose the Houston Food Bank.

The Houston Food Bank is the nation’s largest size Feeding America food bank and source of food for hunger relief charities in 18 southeast Texas counties. The Houston Food Bank is comprised of a network of nearly 500 food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers and other agencies; feeding a total of 137,000 people each week and providing more than 70 million pounds of food and prepared meals annually. Their website provided a list of the most needed food items. We printed the list and went shopping, loading up on items listed.

Due to Yale Enforcement Services generous nature, we were able to donate 188 pounds of non perishable needed food items.

Yale's Officer of the Year- Tim Wilson

I am extremely happy and proud to report that our Site Supervisor, Tim Wilson, has been selected as Yale’s Officer of the Year. Tim has worked for us as a Site Supervisor since October 2007 at a New Port Richey hospital facility. During this time, Tim’s professionalism, leadership abilities, dependability, and willingness to go above and beyond has far surpassed either our or the client’s expectations. During the last year and half, Tim’s responsibility and staff has doubled. The facility he works at has been building a newer facility and Tim has been instrumental in helping plan and implement the security system for it. He went from staffing and overseeing one facility to two, with months and hundreds of hours of additional temporary coverage on top of that due to failing alarm systems. It is rare to find someone willing and able to take on this level of added responsibility, but Tim has done so with the highest of integrity and professionalism.

It seems that every year this award goes to someone who has done something exceptional…save a life, stop a robbery, catch a thief, etc. Without a doubt, those should always be recognized and be awarded, but it really is nice to have an officer recognized just for doing their job and being someone we can be proud to call our own. Way to go Tim and thank you for just being you!!!

Sergeant Daniel McClure has been selected as Officer of the Month for Region II. Sgt. McClure has been employed with Yale Enforcement Services, Inc since 2004. He received a written commendation from our largest manufacturing client in Region II praising his professionalism and attention to detail while conducting his duties. He is an excellent role model for the officers he leads and can always be counted on to make correct decisions when challenges arise. Sgt. I would like to congratulate Juan Ramirez for being selected as our Officer of the Month for December. Juan is a Flex Officer out of our West Palm Beach office and has always been extremely dependable and willing to do whatever is necessary to keep things covered. This has most recently been demonstrated by his coverage at a temporary site in Miramar, a location almost 60 miles from his home. This was originally supposed to be a four day temporary assignment back in August, but ended up running through December 31st. For four months, Juan made this trek day in and day out, often seven days a week because no one else wanted to drive that far. As if that weren’t enough, while he was there he performed his duties with the utmost professionalism and we frequently received notes of commendation from the client and staff at the site. Thank you Officer Ramirez for your hard work and dedication.

Region 5 Loses a Family Member

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I report that Jeff Holler, our Operations Manager, passed away suddenly Christmas morning from a suspected heart attack. Jeff had been with Yale since February 1^st, 2009 and was an integral part to our regional operations and the loss we feel is immeasurable. Jeff was the kind of person that everyone enjoyed working with and truly liked on a personal level. In almost three years, I don’t think I ever saw him get mad or really upset. When things were tough or he was really stressed, he always managed to remain pleasant towards everyone. He was very dedicated to his job and was a man of great integrity. His smile was infectious and his laugh could always bring a smile to your face.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Alecia and three daughters: Alexis (18), Mackenzie (16) and Shelby (13). Jeff was truly a family man and nothing meant more to him than all his girls. There was rarely a day that passed that he didn’t talk about his family and our morning ritual was to discuss his daughter and my son’s basketball games for the week. He was so proud of all of his daughters and they are amazing girls which is a testament to Jeff’s dedication to them. Our heart goes out to his family and while no words can take away the pain they feel, I hope they can find comfort in knowing how much he loved and cherished them.

Jeff will truly be missed and will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest in peace.

What Christmas is Really About

Yale Enforcement Services Inc, was generous enough to give each Branch $200 to pick up food items to donate to their local food pantry. Metropolitan Ministries is one of the largest for homeless families in the Tampa Bay area and they have sponsor companies that match every food and toy donation made by other companies and individuals. This is the time of year that we all should always think of the less fortunate, so I extended the offer to my staff in the Tampa Branch to also contribute and any money collected would be used to purchase toys for the kids, and would be delivered along with the food.

The great thing about Metropolitan Ministries is that they constantly update their website with the most needed items, so you can be sure what you give does truly make a difference. They were extremely short of turkeys, stuffing, canned yams, canned fruit and had nothing for over 4500 teens aged 10 -17. When most people purchase toys for donations, we tend to always think of the little kids and buy those sort of toys, but unfortunately, most older kids and teens are overlooked and don’t get anything. I am proud to say that as a result of the donations made today, we made a difference in many family’s lives for the holidays. Thanks to Barbara and Rick Yale, we were able to give 8 large turkeys, 32 boxes of stuffing, 36 large cans of yams and 36 large cans of fruit cocktail. Thank you to those in the Tampa office who contributed and we were able to provide 5 basketballs, 5 footballs, 3 full size skateboards, several perfume/cologne/body lotion sets, 2 boys watches, 2 girls watches, several necklace and earring sets and several make up kits also valued at $200. As a result of the matching contributions from their partner companies, this equates to a total donation of $800.

Again, I thank Barbara and Rick and everyone involved in the Tampa Office. Helping those less fortunate is truly what this time of year should be about and it warms my heart to think of the difference we made for many families and their older kids this holiday season. Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanza and Happy New Year to all!!!!

Bob Graveline, Regional Manager of Region 2, has spent nearly 18 years donning the white beard and red suit. He has been playing Santa Clause for thousands of children over the years. He started working as a mall santa as a favor to a friend and he enjoyed it so much that he has continued to portray Santa every year since. This year, Bob took time out of his busy schedule to play Santa for the children of the workers in the Omaha office. "Santa" wishes everyone a happy and safe holiday season! Ho, Ho, Ho!

Omaha Employee Praised

Sgt. Dan McClure has been employed by Yale since 2004 and is the site supervisor at one of our large manufacturing clients. I received the following email from the Security and Safety Director regarding Dan:

"I wanted to pass on a long overdue note of appreciation regarding the overall performance of Dan McClure. Dan has been on our account for a number of years now and has maintained a very high level of performance for us. He is incredibly conscientious, very adaptive to any of our needs, and always carries himself in a professional manner. Dan has had interactions with employees at all levels of our organization and is well-respected by everyone.

To provide a simple example of his strong work ethic…one of our vice-presidents was in the office yesterday evening working well past our normal business hours. Dan was conducting a tour of the building and recognized activity in the area during a time period where there typically is not and checked the situation. He confirmed the person in the area was one of our employees, checked to make sure the person was OK, and offered any assistance if needed.

Dan is an outstanding representative of Yale Enforcement and has been a stellar performer on our account. A sincere “thank you” from all of us here for the high level of service he provides."

In Memoriam...

Yesterday the Omaha office lost one of our beloved staff members. Celinda Yates was an Administrative Assistant who worked with Linn Baer, our Fleet Manager. Celinda has battled multiple illnesses over the years. She suffered from heart problems, several types of cancer and she was diabetic.

Each year, Celinda solicited donations from all of us in the Omaha office so that a family in need would get Christmas presents. This year was no exception. Although her mother passed away on Tuesday of this week, she found time to get the presents purchased. Yesterday she brought the presents into the office so they could be delivered to recipients at the local Open Door Mission, which has many homeless families with small children.

Her mother’s funeral is scheduled for this afternoon so she and her brother went to the cemetery to visit their father’s grave site yesterday. Unbelievably and tragically, Celinda stopped breathing and collapsed at the cemetery and now is reunited with both parents.

Besides working together, Linn and Celinda had a personal relationship. We are all saddened by this loss and our hearts go out to Linn and the entire Yates family.

Celinda was only 45 years old and will be greatly missed by family, friends, and coworkers.

Tim’s responsibilities have doubled in the last few months and he has done an outstanding job at both hospital facilities he oversees. In addition to managing all the officers at both sites and dealing with constant fluctuating coverage, he manages to remain available to the client and meet his high expectations and demands on a huge project that is winding down to the opening of the 2^nd facility. Tim is a huge asset to both facilities as well as Yale. He brings many years of experience to the table and is capable of handling all situations that arise at any hours of the day. Training Classes Held

Several members of the Corporate Headquarters of Yale Enforcement Services, Inc. took part in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training last week. The Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training program emphasizes early intervention and offers techniques for diffusing or managing potentially dangerous and violent situations. This training is well-known to our officers in hospital and transport positions but this is the first time this training class has been offered in the corporate office. Ten individuals, including our CEO, Barbara Yale and our COO, Rick Yale, participated in the training. These classes provide awareness of possible incidents that could occur in the workplace as well as instilling a sense of confidence in each employee who attended.

Corporal Robert Arena has been selected as Officer of the Month for November 2011. Corporal Arena has been employed by Yale since April of 2011 and came to us as a result of a Lincoln acquisition by Yale. It quickly became apparent that Robert was very proficient at the facility he was assigned to and he was given the challenge of becoming our training officer. In November, Bob successfully assisted with training officers to deal with protesters that were present for a number of weekends outside our facility. Corporal Arena’s attendance and punctuality has been exemplary and he can always be counted on to perform his duties professionally and thoroughly. Pushing The Rock

We have all had our ups and downs when starting new sites, or expanding current ones. Sometimes our frustrations make us feel like Sisyphus, pushing the proverbial rock up the mountain, only to have it come down again just to restart the process.

When one of our clients wanted to expand coverage for the holidays and add 659 hours per week with only a 2 week notice to start, the mountain looked huge and the boulder looked square. But thanks to the help of a well organized, well oiled machine, it went off without a hitch.

Thanks to the folks involved, we were able to set up a job fair and submit 23 potential employees for background investigations, hire, uniform and staff the operation in less then a week, and that was over the Thanksgiving holiday. This would not have happened had it not been for the outstanding work of the following personnel:

Capt. C. Patterson and Lt. G. Howard, who were the “boots on the ground,” handling scheduling, uniform issue and staffing.

Sgt. A. Winter, who put in extra hours to insure paperwork was completed, and uniforms were either ordered or shipped.

Shannon Crone for getting the background information out and overseeing the process.

Katherine Roth and Chris Yale for keeping on top of the backgrounds and getting the new hires processed and ready to work.

This well oiled machine made it easier to keep the client happy, staff a difficult location and keep the rock rolling. Thanks for all your help. Time to move on to the next boulder; maybe it will be a little more round.

Officers Praised in Region 3

I would like to share two incidents that happened in Region 3 this week and recognize the actions of the officers involved:

Officer William Dabney was on patrol and noticed a man in distress, walking from his vehicle. Officer Dabney responded quickly and recognized the man was having a heart attack! He made sure the paramedics and authorities were notified and assisted others in giving care to the man until EMS arrived and took over.

Officer Kimberly Jones was flagged down by a customer of one of our clients who stated her vehicle had been hit and the driver drove off. Officer Jones was able to locate the fleeing vehicle, write down a license plate number and turn the information over to the Police.

When we started the transport program in Charleston it was a new program that we hoped would work well. We had no idea that it would become the outstanding service that it has become.

This past week, our transport team crossed the 200 mark for transports. This marks a huge milestone in the progress of the program and the transport team is to be commended.

Capt. James Williams has led the team from the start and he and the transport team continue to provide the quality comfort and care that make these difficult times for our clients a little easier. We are only 8 months into this program. Here is to 300!!

Lieutenant Tuggle Saves the Day

Region 5 would like to recognize Lt. Mark Tuggle for his outstanding performance in handling a fire in a patient’s room at one of our hospitals. Below are his statements of events that occurred:

On 11-10-11 at approximately 2:13, I, Lt. M. Tuggle, heard over intercom CODE RED 2 but the call sounded interrupted. I immediately started toward PBX to find out what the issue was. As I entered the administrative corridor, I still did not notice any audible alarms, however PBX recalled the CODE to room 220. I proceeded up the stairs to the second floor. Reaching the second floor I observed the nurses closing doors stating there was a fire in room 220. I stated loudly “pull a station and bring fire extinguishers”. The 2nd floor secretary pulled the alarm as I grabbed an extinguisher and entered the room. Upon entering I observed a flame coming from a red receptacle and extinguished it. Steve with Plant Operations entered and I advised him to open the window to vent off the room. He ran out of the room to gather a screw driver and returned quickly. I assisted opening the window with Steve and then I advised him to open up the wall. At this point Kevin and Tim with Plant Ops also arrived into the room. As Steve was opening up the wall, Tim and Kevin assisted in pulling the sheet rock and insulation out of the wall enough so I could put another blast from the extinguisher into the wall. Once this was done the fire was no longer a threat and all smoldering items were extinguished. Plant operations had shut the power to the room and respiratory had shut off the O2. I then exited the room and advised all parties to exit the room to get some fresh air and allow some of the powder chemicals to subside. I then headed down stairs to meet with the fire department. I met one engine Captain who I advised of the situation and suggested a vent fan. The captain and a crew member were escorted upstairs and vented the room. I also received a call from PBX advising that the lab was stating their compartment was full of smoke and smelled of something burning. I left the captain and headed to the lab where I noticed smoke and did smell a burn smell, however did not see any issues. It had seemed to just be residual smoke from the above floor. I headed back upstairs and advised the captain who agreed. The fire department then cleared at approximately 3:00. I then found a tech who was in the room at the beginning, who advised me that she unplugged her machine and noticed the spark and fire. She states that she removed the patient from the room and advised the nurses’ station secretary of the fire in room 220. The machine Taylor was using was removed from service immediately. Taylor also stated that the O2 meter on the wall was leaking at the time of the spark. I gathered information and cleared at approximately 4:00.

Lt. Tuggle, thank you for your quick actions and the outstanding performance you showed in handling this situation. By taking charge and maintaining calm of the situation, you were able to save the lives of patients and minimize property damage for our client. Yale and the facility are very grateful for your actions.

West Palm Beach Office Commendations

Here we are now into our 11^th week of providing this temporary coverage and I’m sure the drive alone takes its toll on officers. Security Takes No Holiday

As retailers try to lure shoppers to their stores during the critical holiday season, which can account for as much as 40 percent of yearly sales, businesses are also trying to send a message that they're safe. Each year, many of our clients beef up security over the holidays. The biggest threats occur in parking lots, where shoppers are at risk of having their cars stolen or purses snatched. Vehicle break-ins also account for a large percentage of crimes that occur during the holiday seasons as shoppers leave packages in plain sight of thieves.

As security officers, we need to be extra vigilant this time of the year. Even the most aggressive security efforts can't stop all crimes, but we need to do our best to make our clients and their customers feel safe.

Then guarded the spill until Maintenance showed up to clean it up. LaRhonda Jones is her name."

Kris- Client wrote- "I have to say, Jeremy Harmon from Security was the most helpful security person yesterday. In the 6 years I have been at (this facility) I have not had anyone be so helpful and professional as he was. Kudo’s to him! He asked very appropriate questions, he made this family feel like they were being heard and helped even though losing their phones was their own mistake."

Intoxicated Female Arrested

On October 27th, Officer Nicholas Panek was patrolling a shopping center in Omaha. He observed an intoxicated female staggering to her vehicle. Obviously intoxicated, Officer Panek tried to get the female to call a cab. She refused and was adamant on driving. Omaha Police were contacted. Once the police arrived, the female became combative and Officer Panek had to assist the police officer in apprehending her after she kicked the police officer in the chest. Police contacted EMS and the female was taken to the hospital for possible alcohol overdose.

Great job Officer Panek. Your actions may have prevented a tragic drunk driving accident!

The following letter was recently received by a customer of one of our clients in Springfield, Missouri:

Dear Folks at Yale,

I am writing to commend our latest security guard, who patrols the grocery store in Springfield, Missouri. His name is Eddie Balthazar.

I live two blocks from this store and am a regular customer there. I feel that Eddie Balthazer has contributed to a sense of security to both the store and the surrounding neighborhood that was not there before. He is always very courteous, well groomed, in a clean well ironed uniform, but even better than that, he brought those Chicago street smarts with him when he arrive here. He knows what to look after that is suspicious in nature and knows the difference between a harmless poor person and a real potential shoplifter. He reads people very well, gets along with most everyone, and has made it his business to know who the regular shoplifters are.

He is an asset not only to the store but to the neighborhood surrounding it. We are hearing of fewer instances of robbery here in an economic climate that breeds robbery. And the store parking lot is not longer being used by mobile drug dealers and hookers.

I am a twice over neighborhood watch captain (in cooperation with the Police Dept. ) with the street savvy of an ex-New York City resident, my old home. I am also an interfaith minister. Born and bred in Concrete Jungle. I know a good one when I seen one. Give this guy a raise!

Missing Child Located

Recently, Officer Daniel Stone was working one of our accounts in Roeland Park, Kansas when he was alerted that a child was missing. Officer Stone obtained a description and proceeded to patrol the area looking for the missing child. After an unsuccessful search of the parking lot, Officer Stone took it upon himself to check a neighboring business, Game Stop. The missing child was located playing video games in the front of the store. Officer Stone contacted management who brought the distraught mother to be reunited with the lost child.

Officer Stone went above and beyond by continuing his efforts to locate the child. Great job, Officer Stone!

The South Carolina/Georgia office has doubled in size in the last 16 months, and all the credit goes to the great staff of area supervisors, site supervisors and officers we have. The quality of the folks that work out of this office is reflected daily in the praise that we receive from both the client and the public that use our facilities.

Greg Howard started as a new security officer less then a year ago, and is promoted from Shift Supervisor to Site Supervisor.

Susanne Quinn, our newest promotion, is a former Corrections Officer, and has been promoted from security officer to Site Supervisor.

In South Carolina,

Ken Lemley, our newest supervisor, is a retired police officer from New Jersey, and has become an outstanding site supervisor.

James Parks has been promoted from Sergeant to Lieutenant and Site Supervisor of one of our busiest properties in South Carolina.

John Powers has been promoted from shift supervisor to Lieutenant and is Captain Parks right hand man.

Officer Webb came to work for Yale in August 2009, and has proved himself many times over to be a loyal and dedicated Officer. As a flex Officer he has responded whenever called upon. Officer Webb has even gone far out of his way to help us staff remote locations, sometimes 80 or more miles from his primary job site. His loyalty and commitment is only surpassed by the pride he has in wearing the Yale patch. We are happy to have him here in Austin, and look forward to working with him far into the future.

Butch has the kind of intimidating presence you want in an officer, but that is just a shell. Butch, as the Emergency Department(ED) Officer, really shows his soft side, and his true self. Not a week goes by that our client does not forward an email, call or let us know what an outstanding officer he is. His position as an ED Officer brings him in contact with the public during their most stressful times. No one wants to be in the ER, and Butch, through his manner, professionalism and true concern, makes everyone feel at ease.

As others have noted, security is a business where no news is usually good news and good deeds can go unnoticed. Today I received a call from a customer of one of our clients and she wanted me to know that Officer Desmond Brigham is a great officer! She had left her pocketbook on top of her car and walked off to go shopping. Officer Brigham noticed the pocketbook and was able to keep it secure until the customer could be notified and the pocketbook returned to her. She mentioned she was already having a bad day, but this action made her day better. Great job Officer Brigham!

Region 2 Employee of the Month

Security Officer Nicholas Panek has been with Yale Enforcement Services, Inc. since July of 2011. Although only with the firm for a short period of time Officer Panek has distinguished himself by his professionalism while being assigned to protect our largest retail client in Region 2. Recently Officer Panek was able to successfully detain an individual who was highly intoxicated while on our clients property until police arrived and took the uncooperative individual into custody. This individual could have caused serious injury or even death if they had been allowed to drive their vehicle off the property. This is but one example of the attention to detail and professional manner in which Nicholas conducts himself while on duty.

Halloween Surprise!

Region 5 Scheduler, TJ Wilbourn, came into quite a surprise this morning in the Tampa office. TJ is a big practical joker and the staff thought it would be a great idea to get him back for a change and used Friday while he was out on vacation to decorate his office. Imagine TJ's surprise when he opened his office door this morning! Sharon Waggoner did an outstanding job decorating with the assistance of other staff members using cobwebs, streamers, spiders, skeletons and even a pumpkin head scarecrow man. Our team works so well together to overcome daily challenges, it's nice to see them pull together for some good ole' fun.

Since we are all so busy and focused on what needs to be done, we usually make the time to put out the fires, but let the great service go unmentioned. I just want to take few minutes to let you know that we really appreciate having Yale as our security company. We feel that you have done a good job providing us with professional and quality guards that truly care about their jobs and our organization. The guards at our site have interaction with our associates continuously throughout the day and it's important to us that this interaction be professional and excel in service. Below are just a few comments about the guards we have at our location.

Gus - He is fairly new and still learning our atmosphere and the role he plays here. Although there have been a few bumps in the road, I am optimistic that he will be a good fit.

Otto - He is dependable, friendly and always willing to help in any way he can. He is very good about bringing any "concerns or observations" to my attention or my staff's to ensure we are aware.

Luther - He is very professional and on top of things, I don't think any associate has ever slipped by him without a badge. He too is very dependable and observant.

Kelly - She does her job with a lot of pride and has a positive attitude towards it. If I want to know about anything in the parking lot, all I have to do is check with her. She does an excellent job making sure associates our following our parking guidelines and is always there to help an associate if needed. She always keeps our parking lot clean, which can certainly be a challenge. She ensure that I'm as aware of issues and is always flexible with her schedule to assist when it is raining.

I also want to thank you and Darlene for always taking care of scheduling needs, even the last minute ones. As well as providing us with quality guards.

Again, we really appreciate Yale and the service level you are providing to our company.

Suspect Charged for Security Officers Murder

Memphis Police arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a security officer at the Bent Tree Apartments last weekend. 41-year old Reginald Thompson was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound when officers arrived at the complex around 9:30pm on October 23rd. He was transported to The Med, where he later died.

Investigators said that Thompson, who worked for Yale Enforcement Services as an officer for Bent Tree Apartments, was shot by 18-year old Xavier Davis. According to the affidavit, Thompson was arguing with an unknown person when Davis starting shooting at the guard. Davis and the second suspect fled the scene on foot. A witness later identified Davis from a photo spread.

Xavier Davis was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder; he is being held at the Shelby County Jail without bond. He is due in court on November 2nd.

ATM Theft Foiled by New Officer

On Sunday, October 23^rd at approximately 0200, Officer Michael Brown noticed two suspects loading a large item into a van. Officer Brown had only been employed with Yale Enforcement Services for four days, but his training kicked in and he immediately became suspicious of the activity. After notifying his shift leader it was learned that the suspects had entered our client’s property through a rear door and had stolen the ATM machine. Officer Brown notified the Local Police and observed the suspects from a safe distance. When the suspects realized they were being watched by security, they abandoned the vehicle and ATM machine and fled on foot. The local Police arrived and took possession of the vehicle and ATM for fingerprinting and evidence. The Police, our client and Yale have praised Officer Brown for his quick thinking and actions, which directly led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the fully intact ATM machine. Yale Enforcement Officer Killed

Memphis Police are searching for two suspects after a Yale Enforcement Services security officer was shot and killed late Sunday. Officer Reginald Thompson was shot while attempting to stop two suspects that were entering the property. Officers were called to the apartment complex just before 9:30pm. When the police arrived they found Officer Thompson laying at the entrance with multiple gun shot wounds. Officer Thompson was transported in extremely critical condition and later died at the Hospital. Police continue to search for the two suspects.

Officer Thompson had been employed with Yale Enforcement Services, Inc. since July 15th, 2011 and was previously employed with Hoorah Security, a Memphis security company that was acquired by Yale in July. The management and staff of Yale Enforcement Services would like to extend their heartfelt condolences to the family of Officer Thompson. Officer Thompson was 41. Additional information will be posted when it becomes available.

All too often, we forget that our staff works very hard at keeping our operations going. We call them for certifications, clock in and out issues, uniform orders or to fill a post, but we sometimes fail to let them know when they are doing a good job. A pat on the back, a thank you or even just a hello from us can make someones day better.

Please be advised, our Yale Security officer, Captain Clarence Patterson went out of his way this morning to assist an individual during our Employee Wellness Screening event (Tues, Oct 11^th). A wellness screening technician was cold while working in our designated area during the event. I would like to give a standing ovation to the Communications Center Operators for doing an outstanding job with the issues that have arisen in the after hours when they are on duty. I have had a significant drop in after hours phone calls and am able to have more of a personal life as a Scheduler recently due to their efforts with the Client Sites assigned to me.It was a bumpy road at the beginning but after working out the kinks with some issues, the Communication Center Operators have become an asset to what we do as schedulers and allowing us to have somewhat of a personal life again.

MAN WITH A GUN!

Jia Stephens has always proven herself to be a smart, reliable officer, but never more so then a recent incident. When the fire department notified Officer Stephens of a false pulled fire alarm, she took it upon herself to investigate the event further. Following sound procedures, she was able to track the call and the pull station to a certain area. She then reviewed the video of the area and found who had pulled the false alarm.

But the story does not stop there. When Officer Stephens began to approach the subject, it was found that he had a gun. Using sound security methods and safety practices, she was able to clear the area, notify police, and keep the subject in view. After police arrived, she was able to assist, and recovered the gun and extra ammo. Showing bravery in the face of an armed intruder is no easy thing, but keeping your head and keeping everyone safe is a feat due recognition.

The most important thing, everyone went home safe. As a result of her action, Officer Stephens was awarded the Employee of the Month award for October in Region 4.

New Rules for Contacting Staff

An automated attendant allows callers to be automatically transferred to an extension without the intervention of an operator/receptionist. Yale Enforcement Services, Inc. utilizes an auto attendant that offers a simple menu system. While many people report disliking automated attendants, it is the quickest way for us to offer support to our employees. At times, language barriers also delay the transfer of a phone call. By dialing the person’s extension you are calling directly, it takes the guess work out of the

operator determining where to transfer your call. Effective October 10^th, 2011, all employees will be required to contact their schedulers and personnel coordinators directly and not by pressing “0” for an operator. Non-scheduling or payroll issues may be directed to the administrative assistant.

Weather Record Broken in Region 3

Summer officially ended, but the hot weather did not. On Thursday, the high temperature for the Dallas-Fort Worth region reached triple digits for the 71st time this year, extending the record for days in a year with temperatures of 100 or above.The high of 101 was a record for Sept. 29, beating the 99 degrees from 1953. It is the area's third-latest triple-digit record; the latest is 106 on Oct. 3, 1951, and it was 102 on Oct. 1, 1979. But relief has arrived. A cold front moved in late Thursday, dropping the temperature to 76 at 10 p.m. Lows tonight and throughout the weekend should be in the mid- to upper-50s, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

Weatherman says we may have one or two more chances to add another 100+ day. Hope not!

Alert Officer Finds Missing 4 Year Old

Sergeant James Reed of Omaha was on routine patrol of an apartment complex on September 17th at approximately 3:15 a.m. when he observed a vehicle illegally parked. As he approached the vehicle he observed a male subject sleeping in the front seat. Contact was made and Sgt. Reed quickly determined that the driver was not a tenant of the property. While conversing with the driver, Sgt. Reed observed a small child in the back seat sleeping. The driver stated that the child was a "friends kid." Sgt. Reed then contacted Omaha Police who responded within minutes as there was already an Amber Alert for this child. The male party was quickly taken into custody and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, drug paraphernalia, child abuse/neglect, possession of marijuana and meth. The child was safely returned to her mother.

How to Best Describe a Suspect

If you become the victim of a crime or witness a crime, stay calm and focus on the offender's appearance.

If you give the police a really good description of the suspect, it increases the odds that the perpetrator will be arrested and brought to justice.

1. Pay attention to the suspect's sex, race, height, weight, age, and hair.
2. Take inventory of the suspect's clothing and accessories: The color, style, brand, shoes, and jewelry.
3. Look for scars, tattoos or distinguishing facial characteristics.
4. If the suspect speaks to you, listen carefully to the offender's voice. Does the suspect have an accent or a speech impediment? Do you recognize the offender's voice?
5. Pay attention to the suspect's direction of flight. If you are able to tell the police which way the suspect went, authorities may be able to catch the culprit before he or she leaves the area. Always look for a license plate number and describe the vehicle (make, model, color, markings, dents or damage).

DART Team Changes Implemented

Our DART (Disaster Activated Response Team) has been evaluated and new membership guidelines have been implemented. The evaluation was in response to a review of what clients are being promised or demanding when they are considering implementing the team as part of their disaster planning.

Requirements for team membership have changed and must be met prior to confirmation into the group. Once your membership is approved you will be issued a DART pin to wear on your uniform.

Membership Minimum Requirements:

Must be employed with Yale Enforcement Services Inc. For a minimum of 6 months.
Must obtain the rank of senior officer or higher.
Must be CPR and First Aid certified.
Must have no more than 5 points assessed in the prior 6 months or as an active member. (Vehicle accident points will be excluded)
Complete and sign a Personal Statement of Understanding.

Current DART members will be grandfathered. I feel the review and changes in requirements to be a member are a positive step in insuring that Yale Enforcement Services Inc. is providing the highest quality disaster protection to its clients.

If you are now qualified and have the desire to be a DART team member, please contact your regional office for an application. If you have the desire to join, but have not met the required qualifications, please map a plan to complete the items you are missing. Until you complete the above requirements you may be placed on our DART reserve list and may be deployed in the event of a major disaster requiring additional resources.

Yale Officer on Military Leave Checks In

Sergeant Walter Butler, presently on military leave of absence, checked in with me earlier today. Butler has worked with Yale since January 15^th, 2007 and has worked with me since 2000. Butler serves in the United States Army. Over the past 11 years he has been deployed many times to serve overseas, and has always returned. Sgt. Butler is currently in the Wounded Warrior program at Ft Hood, Texas. Butler was patrolling in hostile territory overseas when an IED (improvised explosive device) exploded underneath his Humvee. Sgt. Butler stated he was the only one to survive the blast. He has been hospitalized for the last 3 months but is expected to fully recover. Our deepest sympathies go out to Sgt. Butler's Humvee unit soldiers who lost their lives and to all the men and women in military service who make the ultimate sacrifice for their country. We at the Houston office also wish a speedy recovery to Sgt. Walter Butler.

Congratulations to Christine Johnson who officially retired on September 2^nd. Chris was our Administrative Assistant in Omaha. She began her employment with Yale Enforcement Services, Inc. on January 30^th, 2007. Prior to working at Yale, Chris retired from the City of Omaha after 31 years of service. Sergeant James Reed began his second tour of duty for Yale Enforcement Services, Inc. on April 25, 2011. Sgt. Reed was previously with Yale In May of 2006 and left due to deployment in military service in the middle east. Sgt. Reed came back to us safe and sound and immediately displayed his professional and leadership demeanor when assigned to our mobile patrol division. James was promoted to Mobile Patrol Supervisor with the rank of Sgt. in July of 2011 and has been a very effective role model for the officers under his supervision. Sgt. Reed upon his return to Yale has become a valuable asset to our team. Congratulations to Sgt. James Reed for being selected as Employee of the Month for August 2011.

Officer Kelly Hill performs her duties diligently; showing hard work, sincerity and perseverance. Officer Hill is highly proficient in handling the tasks assigned to her and strives for perfection. Her communication skills and humble behavior are assets to her co-workers and to the client. When placed in supervisory roles, Officer Hill consistently steps up to the plate. We have elected Senior Security Officer Allen Martin as our Employee of the Month for August. Officer Martin is one of those all around good guys that Schedulers, Supervisors and Managers love to have on our team. He has been with us since September of 2009 and he never calls off, is always on time, always remembers to clock in and out, and can depend on him to always step up to cover extra or open shifts. Additionally, he takes pride in his job and his performance is outstanding. If every Officer had Allen’s work ethic, our jobs would be a breeze. Thank you Officer Martin for just being you.

DART Team May Be Needed

DART team members need to be alert to the severe weather approaching the southeastern portion of the country. Hurricane Irene is threatening the U.S. and DART deployment could be a possibility as soon as this Saturday. The area that is in the most danger at this point in time is South Carolina, but hurricanes are unpredictable and can take a different path and change intensity in the days leading up to it making landfall.

Please be aware that the potential for a damaging hurricane is present and stay available for contact throughout this weekend. If DART deployment is needed, the Communications Center will contact you with instructions.

New Post in Region 3 Started Today

Region 3 is proud to announce the start up of our newest post. Everyone did a great job to get ready for the grand opening. This is a high profile account and there’s a lot involved in getting ready for a start up! Tina White, personnel coordinator, made sure we had the most qualified candidates for this position and Amanda McLeod, scheduling coordinator, did a great job scheduling for the site. Jill Jenkins and Jamie Hegwood also pitched in to help make sure all our ducks were in a row. Lt. Kyle Newman and the entire Mobile Patrol team will conduct all of the on-site training. As you can see we started bright and early before the doors opened so as to be ready for anything. Even the Mayor of the city was there and the start-up was a great success thanks to all involved. Much thanks to all involved and we look forward to a long lasting relationship with this client.

Omaha Officer Assists in Apprehension

On August 12th, Omaha Security Officer James DiCola was involved in the apprehension of an auto theft suspect. While on routine patrol of a strip mall, DiCola was alerted to a possible auto theft in progress. Upon arrival, DiCola found the suspect and another person struggling in the parking lot. It was determined that the suspect was wrestling with a witness that was attempting to detain him. Officer DiCola, assisted the witness and was able to restrain the suspect until police arrived. The suspect was arrested and charged with attempted auto theft. Great job Officer DiCola!

Region 1 is proud to recognize Officer Jerry Sellers for Employee of the Month for July. Jerry has been a great asset to the Flex Team in the St Louis area. Jerry is currently in the process of becoming armed in both Illinois and Missouri. Jerry has shown his dependability time after time when called upon. Operations Manager Jontaine Glover stated that “Jerry is one of the strongest links in the Yale chain.”

Yale Expands to Memphis

Yale Enforcement Services is now doing business in Memphis Tennessee. Yale recently acquired Hooah Security from Rick and Sabrina Bailey. Rick Bailey is a retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant. Rick will be staying on with Yale as a Business Development Manager to help expand the business in this area. Sabrina will be taking on the duties of Operations Coordinator. Sabrina is currently a part time Deputy Sheriff in Tennessee and has extensive security experience. I am excited to work with both Rick and Sandy as well as all of the security officers that made the transition.
